With a seed gift from KaVo Kerr Group in 2015, a new Charlotte Regional Oral Health Zone (OHZ) is in development. This OHZ engages community stakeholders concerned with children’s health and well-being in a comprehensive, community-based approached to reducing the incidence and devastating effects of childhood tooth decay. The Charlotte Regional OHZ combines resources and programs from America’s ToothFairy: National Children’s Oral Health Foundation with local programs, knowledge, expertise, and manpower to address the significant oral health needs of Charlotte children.
Goals of the OHZ include:
- Expanding access to care and preventive services
- Elevating oral health literacy among pregnant mothers, children, teens and their caregivers through outreach education
- Engaging a variety of partners including civic organizations, government agencies, businesses, educators, students, faith-based organizations, and healthcare providers to increase access to care for at-risk populations and support service delivery
