In the Gap, an extension of the Tomorrow’s Smiles Program, provides an opportunity for Dental Clinic Resource Program (DCRP) members to apply for funds to support the direct care of a child in need of services not covered by insurance/Medicaid or for which the family is unable to pay.
Here is an example of how In the Gap meets the needs of underserved children. A young boy named Erik came to our DCRP member clinic with a need for significant restorative care. A dental provider was willing to perform comprehensive dental care for Erik at no cost (valued at $6,000). However, because of the severity of the case, Erik required anesthesia for which the fee could not be waived ($1,100). Our DCRP member clinic applied for financial support to cover the anesthesia. Upon approval of the treatment plan, request and appropriate documentation, NCOHF provided the funds to allow Erik to complete his treatment. Erik is now happy, healthy and cavity free!
