Scholarships Awarded to Future Dental Professionals at Tooth Fairy Convention

NCOHF Dental Resource Program member, the L.A. Trust for Children’s Health, hosted its 3rd Annual Tooth Fairy Convention on Saturday, February 10, at Exposition Park in Los Angeles. This free community event was designed to raise awareness about childhood oral health and connect families to local resources.

At the event, dentists and dental hygienists provided free oral health screenings and referrals to low cost, community-based dental homes. Community partners including America’s ToothFairy united to offer education on oral health as it related to various topics including pregnancy, early childhood, educational success, finances, obesity, tobacco, etc. Volunteers guided guests through educational exhibits and screening booths, and kids enjoyed a bounce house, face painting and games. The goal was for participants to walk away as informed, empowered community health advocates, and thanks to everyone who supported the event, they did just that!

At the event, America’s ToothFairy was proud to award scholarships to two outstanding high school seniors interested in pursuing careers in dentistry. Brenda Garcia is a senior at Elizabeth Learning Center High School in Bell, CA. She has found her passion in wanting to become a dentist and has an impressive resume that includes volunteering at a dental office after school and serving as an active member of the LA Trust Youth Advisory Board.

Naibe Aguilar is a senior at William S. Hart High School in Santa Clarita, CA. Naibe is pursuing her RDA as part of her school’s Regional Occupational Program/ Career College Readiness. In addition to taking classes as a dental assistant, she also completed certifications in Infection Control, CPR, Radiology, and the California Dental Practice Act. Her ultimate goal is to serve her community as a Registered Dental Hygienist.

Thank you to everyone who supported this great event!
