Did you know that thousands of children across the U.S. either share a toothbrush with their siblings or don’t have one at all? Throughout February – National Children’s Dental Health Month – and all year long you can help children and teens in need by participating in the America’s ToothFairy Smile Drive!
What is the Smile Drive?
The Smile Drive is similar to a canned food drive but for oral care products! Held throughout the year, with a special push during February, National Children’s Dental Health Month, the Smile Drive aims to raise awareness of oral health and collect oral care products (toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, rinse, mouthguards etc.) for children in need. These oral care products are donated to non-profit organizations serving vulnerable populations in thousands of communities nationwide. Learn more below!
3 Easy Ways You Can Help
1. Host a Smile Drive
The Smile Drive is a fun, easy way for student groups, dental practices, businesses and other volunteer groups to help kids in their community. All you have to do is follow these simple steps:
- Complete a brief registration form.
- Identify a local non-profit organization serving at-risk children to receive your donations. Boys and Girls Clubs of America are our national Smile Drive recipient. Locate a club near you or download a list of other potential recipients.
- Collect donated toothbrushes and toothpaste and deliver them to the non-profit you have identified.
- Tell us how many products were donated and where you delivered them using this reporting form.
It’s that simple! As a registrant, you will receive access to a free Smile Drive Toolkit with flyers, donation box labels, web badges, a press release template and more – everything you need to promote your Smile Drive! Fill out your Smile Drive survey by March 31 and you will be eligible for some great prizes!
Get your colleagues involved by hosting a Smile Drive at your practice or business. Invite co-workers to collect oral care products and donate them to a local non-profit serving at-risk children in your community. You can even hold a fun competition to see which department or division can collect the most products. Watch this quick guide to hosting a Smile Drive.
2. Hold an Online Smile Drive
Increase your reach by promoting an online Smile Drive! You can boost your live Smile Drive by asking people to buy toothbrushes and other oral care products online in bulk and send them to you. Or, simply share the opportunity on social media or by email. This is a great way to increase the impact of your Smile Drive, while also making it easy for people to donate. Through our partnership with YouGiveGoods.com you can easily request people order bulk donations online to contribute to the national Smile Drive. You can also set up your own unique Smile Drive page to request bulk donations be sent directly to you or your charity of choice. Upload your own photos and messaging and track your progress online. Contact Alli Thomas at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions about how to set up your online Smile Drive.
3. Donate to the Toothbrush Fund
Don’t have time to hold a Smile Drive, but still want to help? Donate to our Toothbrushes and Oral Care Supplies Fund! Every dollar you give will be used to provide toothbrushes for children in need.
