Testimonials

National Children’s Oral Health Foundation, America’s Toothfairy, supports a network of not-for-profit dental centers, community health facilities and university clinics across the country to help them provide critical pediatric dental services in their communities. These Affiliates use resources provided by NCOHF to benefit children of underserved families, providing them with quality prevention education, emergency and restorative services.

NCOHF draws on national resources to deliver funding, engaging educational materials, donated products and technical suppport in order to maximize the Affiliates’ efforts to change the lives of the children they serve – because every child deserves a healthy smile!

Here are some of the emails we’ve received from our network of Affiliates’

We are using the fluoride varnish that you donated to our facility to treat special needs patients that are not covered for preventive treatment though Medicaid. This is another wonderful example of how the NCOHF is helping improve the oral health of those who need it most.

The funding is very beneficial since we are currently seeing many more families without the means to pay for dental care in our clinics’ We are very excited to get our educational material and begin using it with our children.

PrairieStar Health Center and the McPherson/Marion County Head Start are located in a rural area with very limited access to health care’ Most of the children enrolled have never seen a dentist’the financial support provided by NCOHF will allow PrairieStar to reduce the rate of caries in the Head Start population and identify and restore the teeth of children who are already afflicted with childhood caries.

Your support for our program encouraging the parents of babies and young children to make Valley Community Clinic their children’s dental home is vitally important in helping to make this program successful. We have been able to deliver the fluoride varnish donation to hundreds of children at the new NCEF Pediatric Dental Center, a satellite of University of Florida College of Dentistry Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program, providing services for disadvantaged children. The donation will help reduce the incidence of childhood caries in the high-risk population that we serve and also reduces operational costs for the Center.

Funding from the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation will allow us to provide additional pediatric treatment visits to children from low-income families. We will be able to free more children from pain, allowing them to concentrate better in school and achieve better nutrition. More children will now be able to complete their dental treatment plans and have better overall health as a result.

We have grown tremendously since we became involved with the NCOHF. We had over 35,000 patient treatments in 2008 and will have more than 50,000 in 2009. We sincerely appreciate the NCOHF’s support in helping us reach Alabama’s underserved children.

The NCOHF grant will enable our local “toothfairy assistant” to reconnect with over 1,000 children living in rural areas along the San Mateo County Coastside whose dental care may have lapsed. The oral health of these children has been in jeopardy with hygiene not maintained and treatment plans not completed. Our toothfairy assistant will work with families to eliminate some of the barriers to care such as parental understanding of the importance of caring for primary teeth and getting scheduled for appointments.
Julia McKeon, Executive Director
Sonrisas Community Dental Center, Half Moon Bay, CA

The United Methodist Mexican-American Ministries ’ will utilize this funding to enhance our Lifetime Smiles Program which provides visual oral screening to school aged children as well as fluoride varnish treatments and oral health education. Additional “Toothfairy Island” materials will enable us to expand the current educational program. We will engage our community teachers, school nurses, daycare providers and other child-focused agencies in train-the-trainer sessions, teaching them the value of utilizing the “Toothfairy Island” Program in teaching children about oral health.

About 100 children participated in the IU dental school’s Give Kids A Smile 2009 program’Thanks to a $15,000 grant from the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation, IU will be able to provide additional treatment to children whose dental needs were too extensive to be fully addressed during the event.

Words alone cannot express the excitement and gratitude the staff and the Board of Directors of Community Oral Health Services has for the recent grant award made possible by Dr. Gordon Christensen’s generous financial support of NCOHF’s Toothfairy Campaign. We often wonder how we functioned without the moral and financial support of the committed staff at the NCOHF before we became an Affiliate. NCOHF truly understands the struggles that most non-profits experience in bringing good oral health education to our underserved families and make our jobs so much easier and effective.
Debi Diaz, Executive Director
Community Oral Health Program,Salinas, CA

Our partnership with NCOHF is worth more than the money’ the quality of the education packets is worth so much to us – we have used them over and over. We also appreciate your advice and free products.
