San Francisco-Bay Area Oral Health Zone
Thanks to a generous funding commitment from Invisalign, the San Francisco Oral Health Zone (SF OHZ) is integrating oral health education in school and community programs, expand delivery of preventive care in nontraditional settings, and incorporate oral health messages throughout existing local channels. By raising awareness and effecting positive behavioral changes in oral health, the SF OHZ establishes the foundation for a healthier, better informed, and more productive community.
NCOHF is working with the University of California San Francisco, University of the Pacific and community stakeholders to effect behavioral change in oral health through innovative educational programs in the Bay Area. In fact, UCSF students and staff have already implemented several OHZ initiatives to address their local oral health crisis such as providing oral health education and dental screenings for children, pregnant women and young mothers. They have also begun training primary care physicians, pediatric medicine residents, and nurse practitioner students in fluoride varnish application, oral health screening integration, and the dental home referral process
Through collaborations with community partners such as Head Start, Early Head Start, Boys and Girls Clubs, and local school districts, the SF OHZ provides dental screenings and oral health education to thousands of at-risk children.
