Pediatric dental disease, also known as severe tooth decay, is the #1 chronic disease among children in the U.S. Millions of children are without access to dental education or services and face ongoing health consequences due to lack of oral health knowledge, untreated tooth decay and other more intensive dental needs. As a result, children are suffering in pain, unable to eat, sleep or concentrate in school. Poor oral health also places a significant burden on local communities, exacerbating poverty, increasing long-term health consequences, decreasing workforce productivity and draining significant personal and governmental financial resources.
America’s ToothFairy: National Children’s Oral Health Foundation (NCOHF) was formed in 2006 as a collaborative effort of clinicians, academicians, corporate leaders and caring individuals to provide an aggressive response to the children’s oral health crisis in the U.S. NCOHF acts as a resource provider, equipping non-profit dental clinics, organizations and volunteers with educational materials and resources to increase delivery of oral health education and care. Since its inception, NCOHF has distributed more than $18 million in resources and programming to support children’s oral health programs.
Our Vision: Oral health education and care for all children.
Our Mission: As a resource provider, we increase access to oral health care by supporting non-profit clinics and community partners delivering education, prevention and treatment services for underserved children.
Our Programs: NCOHF improves oral health outcomes for children by supporting the delivery of oral health education and care for children in need. We focus our efforts on preventing childhood tooth decay and equipping children, youth, parents and caregivers with the education and care needed to develop positive oral hygiene habits. We also promote youth engagement in dental careers, as well as in raising awareness of the dental health needs of underserved children. We support numerous non-profit dental clinics through our Dental Resource Program with educational resources, financial grants, and product and equipment donations—ranging from toothbrushes to dental chairs—for clinics serving vulnerable children.
